Newsletter 031709

Green was everywhere—sweaters and ties and shirts and socks, even hats!  Although Phuoc's tossing the green napkin on his head was a questionable "wearin' of the green."  We feasted on Irish corned beef and cabbage.

Prez Denise called us to order and wished us:  Happy St. Patti's day.  BobR led us in a rousing rendition of GBA.  JohnP prayed to our Heavenly Father and thanked Him for Kiwanis, our good works, the fantastic weather and the meal.  Evie sought out $$$ via our fine Fine Box.  We quickly started tossing in money because a number of folks were not wearing their badge or their pin.  Bettye (our Secret Greeter) announced we were the "friendliest group in the Bay Area" because all had shook her hand.  We had no visitors, but Chino was noted as having graduated and hopefully was passing from Circle K to Berkeley Kiwanis.

VC announced the services for Bob Brown:  Friday March 20 at 11:00 AM at Saint Augustine's Episcopal Church, 525 29th Street in Oakland.

Denise reminded us of the Board Meeting at the Blisses, March 19 at 5:15.

Jeff was in the possession of a special historical Kiwanis relic:  a 1955 Roster.  We carefully looked at it and reminisced.  128 members in 1955; Wow!

Be sure to check out the latest District magazine; we have a picture and blurb about our work at the Le Conte School.

Circle K'ers Monica, Kenneth, Josh, VeJay and Chino (they still claim her) enlivened the meeting.  This past week they had worked at Chaparral House, attended a feast at the Carpenters (that included a mystery enactment, written by them, that was incredible), slaved over a sink washing up at the annual St. Patrick's Day feast and party, participated in the Emerald Run and attended a DCM.  Next week is Spring Breaks (loud hurrahs were heard).  Their District Convention is February 27-29.  May 8 is their Banquet.

Denise will be bringing our Easter fundraiser next week—See's candy.  Our Christmas Sees selling was a great success.  So collect candy next week, and sell sell sell.  Or buy lots yourself and hop out to distribute sweets to family and friends.

Bettye reminded us of our participation in the Blood Drive March 26.  She also announced that lots of quilts would be needed soon.
RIF takes place March 19 at the Hopkins and King and Franklin Head Start Programs.  VC is the coordinator of our RIF program (VC we all appreciate the work you do to make this program so successful).
BC was putting together an Interclub for Hayward Castro Valley this (March 17) evening.

Jack announced the Cazadero weekend, April 17, 18, 19.  He promised Redwoods and a creek and a steak feast and lots and lots of work.  15 Kiwanis folks and 25 Circle K'ers will be attending.  Contact Jack to add your name to the list.

Phuoc announced the Key Club needs rides to their DCM this weekend.  Contact Phuoc if you can provide a ride.  He also announced that the Key Club Convention is April 3-5.

New Bob auctioned off a T-shirt from the Palos Verdes Kiwanis run.  He had contributed $$$ to the event and received the coveted shirt.  Jack bought it for Prez Denise.

Happy and Sad Dollars piled in:
--Phuoc for the Friday Murder Mystery, Circle K, Monica, and the St Pat's feast on Saturday
--Josh for the great candidates for Circle K's Board
--Sandy announcing the YPSO concert March 22, part of an impressive Jewish Music Festival (contact Sandy for details
--Prez Denise for a fun-filled Kiwanis-filled Saturday
--Frank for Roberta getting better and that he recognized 20 folks from the Historical Roster
--VC for Monica and learning the way to keep Circle K and Oakland Tech K happy—feed them, feed them, feed them.

VC was our speaker and we had just the bestest time answering St Pat's questions, filling in a crossword puzzle and collecting prizes of bright green lucky pillows.

Next week is a mystery speaker.  The following week Maurice (Ed's son) will speak on "green building".

A special thank you to Virginia for providing fun and laughter and entertainment as "speaker".
