bell one minute early (and it was brought up that perhaps ½ Pres TP will
start each meeting 1 minute late when she is in the house). Becoming a
most familiar site at the back table (where you hand over your money and
get a lunch ticket in return) was Sec. F. Bliss. Never forget to shake
his hand as he just might be the SG. Maestro B. Rice led us in a
rousing VERY "in tune" rendition of GBA. Past Sec. J. Rosano asked us
to reflect for a moment, and then asked for blessings on the bounty we
were about to receive and have received in the past. The first person
to carry around the new ½ fine box was B. Lowman, and she had to work
today! Also, sitting at the head table was Immediate PAST PRES BFE
Denise. No, she was not running the meeting! ½ and ½ presidency has
instituted a new plan to have a member sit at the head table with the ½
president "in house". What a nice idea!!

Assisting with this project were S. Hearn, P. Khong, J. Piercy, B. Skrak
and V.C. We will hopefully be doing the Head Start sites before the end
of October. B. Lowman took diapers to the VERA CASEY program, and the
quarterly birthday cakes to the SO. BERKELEY SENIOR CENTER (they share
the cake with the WEST BERKELEY CENTER). She also spent time at the
Richmond Food Pantry. S. Hearn volunteered as a reading tutor at
Emerson School. B. Barnwell spent 5 hours at the Castro Street Fair,
pouring beer as a fundraiser for a group, and time at the Public Safety
meeting. F. Bliss volunteered 1 ½ hours of music tutoring at Albany
High School. And, INTERCLUBBING!! The first two of the new ½ ½ regime

weekend!! D. Leonard could not remember if he was or , so we decided
he had a great time at the Albany/EC dinner last night. S. Hearn was
having a great day, but was that she is unable to close the books for
the BFE regime as no installation bills have been turned in. P. Khong
had $$ for the Berkeley Installation last Tuesday evening. J.
Rosano says it is undescribable.. these past 2 weeks of UCB football
are in the bottom of the ocean…( well, you had to be here sitting at the
editor's table!!). J. Egeberg got inside information that the bakery
across the street at Cazadero WILL BE OPEN on the 31st when we are
there!! F. Bliss had ½ ½ $$$ for his grandson's birthday, lectures at
homecoming, thank you Jack for many years as Secretary, and to be here!

wasn't feeling good this morning. Immediate Past Pres. Denise had so
much fun at the installation, and thanked our club for a great year.

providing activities for children ages 2-10. Mieko shared with us this
dream that she has had since she was laid off from her teaching job
about
2 years ago. The theme of the organization is "where your imagination
comes to life," and they are putting on 5-6 events during the year, in
February, April, July, October and November. Their first event was in
January of 2008. Places to hold the events so far have been donated by
the City of Oakland, and she states that she is running this
organization mainly through donations and some funding from her own
pocket. The project she was promoting today is the Halloween
Extravaganza Children's Festival, where children may come for face
painting, games, food, and in general just Halloween
fun. There will be no candy given out, and she has gotten donations
from dentists for dental hygiene supplies, snacks, etc. to go into
donated gift satchels. She's looking for volunteers to come assist her
with running booths, cooking any foods provided, face painting, nail
painting, etc. Also needed are supplies like Halloween costumes, nail
polish, and other things such as this. Past events have seen upwards of
500 young children. Sounds like a wonderful project, being promoted by
this enthusiastic young Cal State Hayward graduate who just loves
teaching and children.
A sign up di
d go around today and there were sign-ups on it for going to
volunteer on October 30th.
B. Fay bought a jar of fresh homemade concord grape jelly and two
lunches will be donated to the place next door (purchased by J. Egeberg
and VC to donate.) And thus, meeting came to an end.
I leave you with the following – I heard this story years ago…
SAQOTW
Once upon a time, there was a big job to do and Everyone was responsible
for completing it. But Everyone figured that since Someone was bound to
do it (Someone always did), Everyone didn't have to. Of course, Anyone
could have done the job, but as it turned out, No One did.
This made Someone quite angry because it had been made clear that it was
Everyone's responsibility, not just anyone's. Yet No One had envisioned
that Everyone would skip out on the assignment.
When an explanation was asked for, Everyone pointed a finger at Someone
only to be told that No One had managed to do what Anyone could have
done.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
