So it begins.  Tammy P (wo)mans The Fine Extinguisher and John P, looking snazzy with his new do', took on the role of ticket sales.   The sunshine glistened off the still wet sidewalks when Denise H rang the meeting to a start.   Bob R lead us in GBA, and Roberta invocated us.

A special guest with us today is Gail Nipitnorasate (That my Kiwanian friends is EXACTLY how it is spelled, I just copy and pasted electronically from an old IM* ), why is she so special?  Well… it happens that she is no longer a college student.  I overheard her say that she is looking for a full time job in either marketing (?) for health/nutrition or nonprofit work.  Keep an eye out (especially for jobs around here) and hand her a job application along with a Kiwanis Ap!

Our past Lt Gov were also honored, but there were so many of them in the room, you can hardly keep track.  I think there was Levitch and… a pair of Bliss'

Circle K supported our meeting with 8 members present!  Ken, Josh, Chino, Tiffany, Monica, Vijay, Rocky and Kathleen!  They reported all sorts of activities: attending midyear, putting on an arts fest, a cake contest, DLSSP (which was rained out).  Then they had planned:  a trip to Tahoe, Adopt a creek, ROCK.  They also invite us to:
K-Fam Dinner!  March 13 on campus unless someone offers up their house.  Mark your calendars!

Fundraising:
The candy for February is all gone.  Easter candy is coming, get ready.  There was also mention of peanuts.

Interclub

We got an award for Interclubbing!  Good job!

Roberta reports on the convention, with some helpful tips public speaking:

·        Leave the podium

·        Move the mic with your head

·        P reparation makes perfect

·        Hydrate

·        Turn around and say "shhhhhh!" to get the crowd's attention

·        Hold the mic away from your mouth, but not too far

Happy and Sad Dollars

J  Bill was happy for Dear Day!

J  Duane was happy to have driven up with 3 members adding up to 114 years off membership!

J  Bob B was sad that Richmond's graffiti was slow to be covered.  And that he would be gone for our St. Patty's dinner to hang out with SoCal Kiwanians

J  CKI awesome dancer Josh was happy for all the amazing events chaired by newer members this past weekend.

J  Leo was happy to be here, but sad that he could not drive up to midyear with Duane this year.

J  Evie was sad for not shaking hands due to illness

J  Frank was sad that their car was recently a side-mirror lighter (and now pockets a little emptier)

J  Phuoc was glad to evade death (Monica?) by making a complete stop at the stop sign when someone ran the stop!  Yikes.

J  Bill F mentioned happiness in going to Sacramento with Duane in his wonderful car and notable talent at maintaining a constant speed.  It was compared to an Electric Train

J  Ed L was happy for Bill Faye's company

J  Bill F was happy back for the detour through Berkeley during which he learned and spotted Letvitch blessed homes.

J  Evie had a happy dollar for Mardi Gra and challenged bucks for knowing the 3 colors of Mardi Gra.  Purple for Penitence, Green for growth and Gold for Glory.

J  Frank mentioned homes which were not Letvitch

J  Ed L mentions and Bill F backs him up, there is a house with palm trees on  (college?) that his grandfather built/lived in.  Palm trees being the identifying feature.

J  Debra (me!) requests the appearance of MANY Santa Clauses at Xmas

J  Ed recalled many Deb(o)ra(h)s at our table at midyear. 3!  Maybe Kiwanis attracts them.

Program:
Kiwanis club of Berkeley's 86th Anniversary and Legion of Honor

First, cake was served

Le gion of Honor is a name given to members with over 25 years of service through Kiwanis.  We had with us 13 of such members!

1.     Borden Price (49y)

2.     Allen Coe (49y)

3.     Leo Iodice (45y)

4.     Robert Price (44y)

5.     Stephen Chun (38y)

6.     Charles Fitch (37y)

7.     Robert Brown (36y)

8.     William Fay (33y)

9.     Robert Skrak (33y)

10.                        Jack Rosano (28y)

11.                        Frank Bliss (27y)

12.                        Edward Levitch (27y)

13.                        John Piercy (27y)

We also remember Dick Frisbie, this year would have been his 59th year with us. A couple memories were recalled:

J  Leo recalls when he was secretary in a club with 125 men, one member would dress up as Santa Claus with a bag full of toys for the men and their families.  Kiwanis has been a highlight in his life

J  Charlie worked with the telephone company 32.5 years but has been with Kiwanis for 37, and only joined after he retired!  An astonished CKIer gasped!

J  Frank recalled flying a private plane to an interclub in Davis

J  ; Ed called Kiwanis the pinnacle of existence in Berkeley

J  John recalled coming to Kiwanis from retirement and becoming active in the town and with YMCA.  Nowadays, Kiwanis is his only reason to come to Berkeley, and he does it cause he <3*s us.
