PrezDenise called us to order on a warm (really it was hot!) spring day. BobR led us in a spirited GBA. Soon-to-be CoPrezTammy called on God to bless us and our club and our service work as we change the world "one child at a time".
Special Guest BillK from the Albany/El Cerrito club was introduced (he was here attending an earlier scholarship meeting—more on that later). RevBill was the Secret Greeter and, except for those purchasing insurance, everyone had been friendly.
Debra announced that VJ has joined the club! Welcome VJ.
VC reminded us that the April 28 meeting will be sweet! A See's Candy Rep will be speaking and rumors are…there will be candy! PrezDenise reminded us that dues are due.
CircleK Monica talked about the success (and fun) of Cazadaro, reminded us of their weekly meeting, and invited us to the Spring Banquet May 8 at 5:30, at top of Barrows. Diane, Kenneth, Karen, Joe, JC, Nina, Cheriz, Alez, Josh and Tiffany made an impressive interclub. All joined in song thanking us for all we do for them—rides and lunches and camaraderie and….ended with spelling out Kiwanis.
Lots going on:
--JohnP is chair of the cookbook committee. Bring in your favorite recipe and give it to JohnP.
--Solano Stroll is coming soon (September); Duane is the lead.
--Oktob erfest is October 17; Jeff is in charge.
--Dack whose "words escape me" talked about Cazadero—the work completed, the food delights, the CircleK support and effort, the onion pie, the camaraderie, the fun….
--Roberta reported on the CircleK sewing circle at her house and the Pediatric Dolls completed.
--The April basket was being passed around during all this time…$1.00 bought 1 ticket. The lucky ticket: Phuoc!
--Sunshine will visit Allen Coe after the meeting next week (arrangements allowing); so if you can, stay a bit after the meeting and come with us to say "hi".
--VC announced our Board agreed to increase her budget.
Birthdays were noted: Happy Birthday to Monica, BillH, Evie (yes, we sang). JohnP's 54th anniversary was noted. Thank you, JohnP, for your generous donation to the Foundation.
The scholarship committee has awarded $40,000 in scholarships to 7 graduating seniors in Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito. May 5 is the Scholarship Awards luncheon—the winners, their parents and counselors will join us in the celebration.
Happy (no sad $$ noted):
--Sandy for Caz, Debra for Caz, Josh for Caz, Duane for Caz
--Denise for JohnP for all he does disbursing the scholarship money
--Jeff—for Caz, the food, JohnP and the hot water, the beer in celebration
--NewBob for his new bike, and his new heavy chains
--Denise for all the hours of service NewBob does in San Francisco
--Linda for the quilt project going so well
The Speaker Time was dedicated to a Bake-Off; the criteria: it had to be made with lemons. The Treats: VC's Tropical Lemon Cake, PrezDenise's Lemon Cookies, Debra's Lemon Bars, Bettye's Lemon Bars, Nina's Cupcakes, Duane's Velvet Lemon Cake (he says he did make it), Roberta's Lemon Jell-O. The Winner: VC!
