Newsletter 033109

A full house today… with L. Hannawalt greeting you at the ticket table, more than happy to relieve you of your $$$ for a chance to eat lunch!!  (and lunch was good today!!).  Folks kept coming in…  and it was difficult to hear our BFE Pres Denise ring her K. bell.  All HAPPY noise!!!  She called on our seasoned conductor, B. Rice, to lead us in GBA, followed by B. Carpenter giving the short "tender mercies" invocation.  B. Fay had to be reminded that he agreed to carry the fire fine box!!

Guests were not in sight, but it was great to have L. Iodice join us, and B. Price and B. Fay were back after 3 or so weeks.  Also joining us were many (10) tired members of UCB Circle K- not tired from studying but from celebrating in Woodland Hills at the Circle K District Convention.  MANY awards were won, including 1st place Total Achievement for Gold Division (61+ members)…  and… Frank Bliss received Circle=2 0K's highest honor given to a Kiwanian- Kiwanian of the Year- for his "assistance and dedication" to UCB Circle K.  WOW!!! Are we not all PROUD of our UCB "kids"!!!!  THANK YOU, Circle K, for all you do for us.  We so appreciate you all!!

LOTS of money collected in the fire extinguisher!!
There were so many folks giving JL $$$ that this editor could not list them all… Many were for our fabulous UCB Circle K- and some members of Circle K put in J$ for us and for their successes.  B. Fay J to be back after three weeks, C. Fitch J for his son. Our speaker, Maurice, was J to be here and J his dad, E. Levitch, was not here to fall asleep!  Dack was L for the Cal women's team.  B. Lowman JJ- she loves our club and is proud to be a member!  She was heading out to pick up diapers to deliver to Vera Casey site.  B. Rice thanked20us for singing for his birthday last week, and for a Grandpa T-Shirt.

Our BFE Pres. Denise let us know that B. Barnwell has injured his knee.  He was J, however, that he had 6 Oakland Tech Key Club members over on Saturday to help with the gardening project near his house in SF.  He bought them lunch as a thank-you- and says he had a great time with them.  He may be absent for a couple of weeks.  Take care, Bob.  We're thinking of you.

Jams were auctioned.. Pear Pineapple was sent home with P. Khong, and Strawberry accompanied BFE Pres Denise to her establishment. $46 went into the fine box for these two jams.  THANK YOU!!

BFE Pres. Denise led us in the pledge, rang the bell- and we left meandered out with thoughts of service and friendship in our minds and hearts!! Go Kiwanis!!!
